Chambers (13, 14) independent of a cavity (4) are provided on the rear side of a pair of molds (2, 3) for producing a foam molded item. First openings (30a, 30b) opened to the cavity (4) are provided along the mating surfaces of the molds (2, 3) which are portions for molding the inconspicuous part of the molded item. The first openings (30a, 30b) communicate with external service pipes (15 to 18) not through the line to the chambers (13, 14) but through communication passages including inter-mold passages (31a, 31b) and inner pipes (32a, 32b), so that the supply of service fluids, such as vapor and compressed air, to the cavity (4) and the discharge thereof can be performed separately from the supply/discharge to/from the chambers (13, 14). Vent holes, which have been essential in conventional foam molds, can be dispensed with. Therefore, the manufacturing cost of the molds is lowered, the maintenance of the molds is simplified, the control accuracy of service fluids is improved, the characteristics of the molded item are enhanced, and the quality of the molded item is raised. |
